You select the firmness of each of the two 2.8" layers .Your choices are soft (22-24 ILD), medium (30-32 ILD), firm (38-40 ILD), extra firm (44 ILD) Quilted cover plus 7" latex gives you a finished mattress of approximately 8.5 " high.
