TEMPERATURE SENSITIVE MEMORY FOAM......
Memory foam was invented by NASA in the 1970's and is technically called "visco-elastic foam". The formula was adapted and then introduced into the mattress market approximately 14 years ago by "Tempurpedic®". Spearheaded by info-mercial and marketing done by Tempurpedic® memory foam has been the driving force in the mattress marketplace
Today every major manufacturer is using memory foam in their mattresses or have a separate line of memory foam beds.
A Little History
Originally visco-elastic memory foam was only produced in 3 pound density by United States foam manufacturers. Their adaptation of NASA's formula didn't produced the same feel as the 5 & 6 pound density in the "Tempurpedic® " mattresses. In the late 90's US foam manufacturers caught up and began producing 4 pound and 5 pound (Sensus by Foamex), visco-elastic foam products.
For more than a decade the 5 and 6 pound visco mattresses produced by "Tempurpedic®" have enjoyed the position of being a unique product with a unique feel but that is not the case now. American made visco-elastic memory foam rivals Tempurpedic® in feel and durability.
We waited until it was right.
We also manufacturer premium memory foam mattresses using the same foam that Sealy, Simmons, Serta, and Spring Air use. Their suppliers are our suppliers. We looked at the 3 pound product in the mid 90's but decided not to manufacture a visco-mattress until the right density of foam could be acquired in the United States, and at a reasonable cost. In 2002, after being convinced of memory foams durability and benefits to our customers, we put a "visco elastic mattress in our lineup. When you are in business for 30 years you just make sure, because your reputation is on the line.
How does "visco-elastic compare to latex? Latex and memory foam are two very different products, each with their own distinct properties and feel. Its a different feel, and only you as the customer can decide which you prefer. We have both memory foam and latex in our Phoenix showroom for comparison. |
